An initiative from:

Caribbean Playbook for Innovation Ecosystem Actors

This is a practical guide for the organizations shaping entrepreneurship and innovation across the region. It is a core knowledge product of CARIBEquity Conecta Caribbean, CARIBEquity’s capacity-building initiative for innovation ecosystem actors, co-funded by the European Union and IDB Lab. Developed as part of CARIBEquity, the Playbook responds to a shared reality: ecosystem actors across the Caribbean are working in fragmented markets, with limited resources, and in contexts shaped by climate vulnerability, migration, and small market size — often without tools designed for these conditions.

This Playbook brings together regionally grounded insight, global best practices, and hands-on tools to support Entrepreneurship Support Organizations (ESOs), policymakers, funders, universities, and ecosystem leaders to design stronger programs, make better decisions, and collaborate more effectively across islands.

Why This Playbook Exists

Built for real ecosystem work — not theory

Across the Caribbean, innovation support organizations are doing critical work in fragmented, resource-constrained, and climate-vulnerable contexts. Yet most tools and models are designed elsewhere.

This Playbook exists to change that. It translates global best practices into region-specific, operational guidance for building inclusive, resilient, and investment-ready innovation ecosystems in the Caribbean.

Who It’s For

Designed for ecosystem actors on the ground

This Playbook is for you if you are:

  • An Entrepreneurship Support Organization (ESO) leader or team
  • A policymaker or public agency supporting innovation
  • A funder or donor working with early-stage ecosystems
  • A university, hub, or network enabling entrepreneurs

Each chapter is written to support decision-making, program design, and daily execution, not just strategy documents.

What’s Inside the Playbook

From ecosystem context to execution

The Playbook covers the full lifecycle of ecosystem building, including:

  • Understanding the Caribbean innovation context

  • Designing incubation and acceleration programs
  • Building inclusive, climate-responsive pipelines
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and long-term impact
  • Fundraising and financial sustainability for ESOs
  • Access to finance and capital pathways

Each section includes practical examples, frameworks, and tools drawn from real ecosystem experience.
